ABOUT

My name is Matt Powell.

I have been fishing for bass on the Welsh coast since my late teens.

I would also fly fish on my local rivers for trout, sea trout and salmon when I was a schoolboy. I would always be on the river whenever I could and would often miss a day of school to get out on my beloved local stretches.

I learned a great deal about foraging for wild plants at a young age from being out in the countryside and from my grandparents.

The smell of the gorse flowers and the Sky larks still remind me of the days I spent with them, and hark back to my younger days.

I spent most of my late teens and twenties in the best kitchens I could and most of them Michelin starred to learn the secrets and techniques of the chef.

Fishing and foraging Wales was created too bring all of my passions together.

And also the things I could share with other people, to try and express and put across a sense and feeling of place. “A gift from me and gifts from all the four corners of Wales”.

An experience and a feeling that anyone’s local area should yield to them and maybe what our ancestors may of felt in days past where the seasons and hunting and gathering were so important.

I want to share with you the places in Wales where you can really escape and leave behind the hardships of the fast paced lives which most people face in today’s modern world .

The places where you can truly get away from it all, reflect and relax…..

I am a fully qualified and insured bass angling guide with the environment agency under the Wild fishing Wales’s scheme.
